Witty Business Card.

March 8, 2011

I randomly found this business card online, and I love it. I love the witty and informal approach it has, it would definitely catch my attention. A nice change from the usual stuffy, corporate design business cards. Alexander Parker created it as a temporary business card.

Imagehaus is an American Graphic Design agency who produce everything from branding to websites. I instantly fell in love with their work, it is so organic and quite retro in style. The colours are all quite pale and neutral which all compliment each other, along with their use of textured papers.

birds

Out of all of their pieces of design that I have seen this is by far my favourite piece. It was created for the All Seasons Wild Bird Store, and the agency created a complete brand revamp, starting with the logo then to the stationary, gift cards, packaging, store bags and signage. The bag design has such an organic, country feel. The muted colours and simple illustrations against the natural brown package background really make the design pop and appeal to the eye. This definitely shows how in design that less is more, and how pattern breathes life into the designs. I love how each bag has its own identity, with different font styles and illustrations, but though still consistent enough that they look like they are from the same company.

beer

This is some branding the company designed for a barber shop in Minneapolis called Schmidty’s. The branding again got a revamp with a glossy-free, retro feel by Stuart Flake. The company describe the shop as a ‘no frills’ barber shop. I think a beer mat was an amazing idea for the business card/ brochure. A mans barber shop, none of their clients would take notice of traditional business card, but a beer mat would definitely catch their eye. I have always liked design ideas that are both branding but that are also practical. A beer mat is an easy way to spread word, and a less aggressive way too. I love the muted colours too, the designers have been careful to make design actually look like a beer mat not a business card, so the whole design fits and works.

kuhlman

This is a piece of branding that the company created for Anglo-Italian inspired clothing company Kuhlman. Imagehaus describe this piece as ‘a complete collar-to-cuff brand makeover’. I absolutely adore this piece of branding, it is so clean and crisp and it has such a superior feel to the design, it looks expensive. I love how all the pieces differ but are the same in style. I love the use of green it is very royal especially with the use of pattern. It is a highly decorative piece of design, that is exciting, new and fresh.

Lego Business Cards.

September 7, 2009

So whilst I continue on my quest of discovering the most outrageous and quirkiest business cards I stumbled onto The Guardian Newspapers website after having a look around I found probably the best business cards in the entire world:

Lego-Lego-business-cards-003

These are the lucky staff at Legos business cards. Their details are printed onto a t-shirt of a lego person which has been designed and made to look just like them. How amazing is that, I am so jealous, everyone would be wanting your business card and you can be sure it won’t end up in a bin. Its such an ingenious idea yet an obvious and simple choice for lego employees, but Im sure an expensive choice for any business not associated with the company to recreate. This has got my head pumping with endless possibilities!

I was looking at business cards online, when I came across this card from Glammer Education Institute of Hair Design in Thailand. The card was designed in June of this year by Y&R Thailand an advertising agency. I instantly feel in love with the simplicity of the card, and how the designers managed to shake up the typical credit card shaped business card.

I found a really good summary of the project online too, along with a client brief for the designers, which was extremely interesting; you can see how the idea spawned from that.

Brief Explanation:
Glammer Education performed with the high standard academy and many outstanding professional hairdressers. Glammer Education has been gradually developed to be a salon academy to date. The academic study will teach from the basic course until the professional class. Let’s start Collection comes from the idea of study at Glammer Education which everyone can enjoy the study at the beginning level.

Describe the brief from the client:
Glammer Education has designed the new name card for their customers who are interested to learn at Glammer Education. This name card is different from other Hair Schools or other salon academies.

I really liked how simple the card was, that is what first attracted me to it. There is very little type, you are not bombarded by information, instead it is saved for a tiny portion of the back of the card and the use of black space makes it feel so much more inviting. The use of black and white make it extremely appealing too, there is not a fussy use of colour. The beautiful illustrations instantly grab the eyes attention, the white lines against the black background, and I love how there are a few different illustrations, it makes you want to collect them all. My favourite part of the card however is how interactive it is, I love how you can take a pair of scissors and cut the hair as directed, how good of a quirky gimmick is that? It really works.
